25 сентября: "Не бывает нулевого риска" [0] - 22.01.2025

-"You follow me in a group of three. You must leave everything here, switch off your cameras and cell phones”, one of the twelve people in red told us. Groping through the devastated spaces and stairs of the Chkalov Halls of Culture under reconstruction I understood there might be something weird happening inside.

The program said the performance on the book "In Situ” by Patrick Buve was staged by Judith Depaule and originally created under the auspices of the Privolzhsky Department, State Centre of Modern Art. The show in Ulyanovsk performed by 12 students from Ulyanovsk, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod was meant to be an innovative artistic show of various genres, combining text, sound, picture and movie – but it turned out to be more than all four together.

"A zero risk does not exist!”

The name and the first seconds of the performance make one immediately forget the plans of sitting in an armchair and clapping hands. This is the show about your fear, the facets of your mind and psyche.

"A woman might have passed

the barriers

with firearms

inside a bag

various scenarios

were tried

to hijack an airplane

to take hostage

to disperse poison gas in the underground

but

"A zero risk
does not exist”

The performance would go on, the actors would lead you from one scene to another, you would stop to wonder. What is it - a mockery, a joke or reality? – and you would not stop wondering. For about 2 hours a group of 36 was mesmerized and silent, and after the show the volunteers for organizational matters shared their observations:

"All the spectators come from the performance room with different impressions. They are so different – shock, pondering, irony. Several people came out of the room in the middle of the show – their eyes open wide…Some stayed inside very long after the end, today was the first time I had to come and call them out.” (Sveta, Ulyanovsk State University)

Sounds pretty intriguing, right? The only thing I can conclude by is that you still have an opportunity to visit the performance, Chkalov HC, till September, 29th.
