The Resistance, new album of British rockers [0] - 23.01.2025
Muse is British alternative rock band. The members are: Matthew Bellamy (vocalist, guitarist and pianist), Christopher Wolstenholme (bassist and backing vocalist), Dominic Howard (drummer). The group was not formed in the music and actual capital of Great Britain but in Devon. They have already 6 released albums and their last one The Resistance appeared 14 September in UK and 15 September in USA. In Ulyanovsk, however, we were lucky to find the disc only in the beginning of November, although it was available in Russia probably in the end of September.
This album extremely differs from the previous ones, especially in the music style. Here you would not find as mush drums as in Showbiz, for instance. But the main concepts are still the same: disaffection with policy (especially one of UK`s), aliens, apocalypse, conspiracies and love.
In short about most unexpected tracks.
The Resistance starts with Uprising. The title “Uprising” was first revealed on 3 July 2009. on the single` s cover were bears. The reason according Matthew Bellamy (in the interview to Absolute Radio, this September) is that people like to give emotions to lifeless things as teddy bears without any idea. In the clip to this song bears are crushing a toy town while Muse is calling:
They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious
so come on
As Matt told in the same interview they only note the problems but do not give solutions.
Undisclosed Desires goes under number 3 in the album. The sound of it greatly differs from any other their song. Bellamy told to Ben Jones from Absolute Radio they were experimenting much with the sound and finally decided to add some R`n`B and Timbaland` s motives to their usual ones. The words are incredible. They seem to burst out of Bellamy` s chest. They touch the undisclosed strings of your heart and show a passion as it is. The rhythm, tune, dynamics, tempo, fret, totally everything is just blowing up somewhere inside you. So, this song has some resemblance features with Hysteria or Stockholm Syndrome. There is a clip available now and it can be watched on youtube.com.
Exogenesis Symphony looks like accomplishment of Muse` s desires to play art music. The main idea of it is conspiracy and possibility of being occupied by aliens. A part of Overture makes you see the whole world crashing without any hope for revival. You can imagine yourself wandering among wreckage of the whole human civilization. You feel like the only survivor in the Last World War.
But the Overture finishes suddenly and now Cross-Pollination starts with a complex piano part. Here emotions are different they are something like liquid up to the middle of the track where atmosphere becomes extremely tense and then as unexpectedly as it starts it ends. So, this track has an enclosing character. The last part, Redemption, is quite slow and romantic. It looks like goodbye told in music.
The Resistance is a work done not by some newcomers but by an experienced rock band perfectly knowing what its style is and how to create an ingenious piece of music. It` s surely worth listening to though even once.
