Tel-Aviv “Little Moscow” [0] - 23.01.2025

I was lucky this year to visit Israel. This country became a real revelation. Nowadays, it’s easier to visit Israel, because non-visa regime was opened for Russians in 2008.

I lived in my friend’s place in the city called Haifa in the north of the country. Israel has two capitals - Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv. They call Tel-Aviv “Little Moscow”. It`s absolutely industrial city with skyscrapers, offices and world-brand shops. If you want to get to another city you can go by bus, car or by commuter train or electric train. This type of transport is very popular. Electric trains are double-deck, incredible clean, noiseless, fast and with fitted carpet. If all of the seats are reserved, people just sit on the floor, because there is really very clean.

Israel has many faces of nature. There are forests in the north. Living in Haifa, we can even heard coyotes. But they don’t fall on people. Mountains and deserts in the south. In the south we saw the life of real Bedouins and wild camels.

As well as there are three seas: Mediterranean Sea, Dead Sea and Red Sea. Beaches are fabulous there. But there was time when the sea brings jelly-fishes and one of them stung me.
I made two excursions. I was on the Dead Sea and one in Jerusalem.

The Dead Sea is a unique place, of course! It’s the only such place on the planet. Its surface and shores are 422 metres below sea level, the lowest elevation on the Earth's surface on dry land. The Dead Sea is 74 km long and 18 km wide at its widest point. Standing on the shore you can see Jordanian Mountains. It is one of the world's saltiest bodies of water, with 33.7% salinity. As well as almost the whole Mendeleev’s Table is there. Bathe in this sea is very useful for the health. Swimming is forbidden there. Because of the high density, the water hold you, but if you loose your balance you’ll just suffocate. You won’t find sand on the bottom, instead there are salt crystals.

As for Jerusalem, it’s truly saint place. I was Church of the Holy Sepulchre and I still can’t believe it! There a lot of people from all over the world, but the opportunity to visit the tomb of Jesus is given everybody. We went up on Golgotha, where Christ was crucified. Our guide told us the history of everything touching the widely-known events. And then we were in the room where the Lord`s Supper had been held, and found out how was it. All we know, that after supper where Jesus told “One of you will betray me”, he and his disciples went in the Olive grove. 2000 has past, but 8 trees still stand there, in Jerusalem. It’s impossible to express all my feelings and emotions at this moment. We visited the Church of Blessed Virgin. It’s been standing since 4 century.

And of course, we were near the Western Wall. It’s a magic place. We visited it on Saturday, it`s a religion holiday and any work is forbidden. So we were asked not to make photos. The wall is not huge. Only men can pray there. But a little piece of this wall is for women. I really like that so many young girls, students, who arte good-looking, fashionable respect their religion, hallow their traditions and spend some time near the wall, reading religious books.

There are a lot of notes in the wall. Once in a week all of them are collected and put them in the box. Then this box is buried on the top of the mountain.

Jerusalem is a place everybody should visit just for once.

As for people, they are very kind and always ready to help. The population contains a very high ratio of the Jewish, the Arabs and ex-citizens of Russia and CIS. Young people are polite and nurtured. They study, work and do military service. In spare time they have fun, and believe me they can do it!

I advice you to visit Israel. There are another people, another culture and nature. The country is rather little, but interesting and keeps a lot of secrets.
