Model United Nations - it's Your World! [0] - 12.07.2025
Are you… willing to become a successful economist, lawyer, security specialist? … ready to do your utmost to become an efficient manager? … going to have a challenge as a politician? … simply dreaming of becoming a diplomat one day? If "yes”, you need Model United Nations. And to say more, Model United Nations needs you!United & International
International Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of the United Nations’ work with the variety of committees represented. MUN participants are young people, mostly undergraduate students or postgraduates, interested in the international relations and other conformable issues. Since UN bodies differ very much in the spheres of application, participants come from various professional backgrounds and as a rule they are well-rounded individuals.
The essence of any MUN lies in the international aspect. Every committee in the simulation has a list of states to be represented (which is established in the real UN) and each country from the list has one person who is called "The Delegation”. Therefore, every delegate is entitled to represent any state except the one which citizenship he or she has. That’s the salt: if you are Russian, leave Russia for the foreigners and be more impartial yourself, making the simulation intrinsically more mixed and diverse.
Every UN body is an assembly of delegates involved in debate on one special issue which is on the agenda of the committee. To put it simply, the Security Council may well discuss the situation in Somalia and the IAEA may deal with the prevention of the terrorists’ acquiring nuclear materials and sources.
As the outcome of the meetings each MUN body should adopt a resolution for all the member states to follow. While making amendments to the draft resolution the delegates come united and may try to come to a consensus when voting on the final resolution.
In Order
The work of any MUN committee is moderated by the Chairperson, the Expert, the members of the Secretariat, and even more efficiently – by the powerful mechanism called "The rules of the procedure”. No committee discussion is ever possible without the rules defining general order, debate and action. Every delegation has a right to speak, reply, inquire or refuse to answer, but there should be an appropriate motion, voiced by a delegate and accepted or denied by the Chairperson as being "in order” or "out of order”. Just do the right thing in the right time in order to be "in order”.

Endowed with Excitement
MUN takes place in different universities worldwide, being an exciting experience and a vibrant social event, giving practice as well as recreation & new friends to its participants. At the closing ceremony of the Model United Nations in MGIMO-university its rector Anatoly Torkunov said: "Model United Nations is your great experience. I mean language experience – it doesn’t matter what the language of your committee is – Russian or English – anyway, it’s a good experience. And we also speak about International Relations – your new challenges and ideas.” Actually, these words are true for all the Models UN and the main thing here is participation.

Getting Enthusiastic
By the way, lively social program helps the Honourable Delegates (the most popular way to address a person during a meeting) to get the best out of several days – not exceeding one week – during the Model. Many delegates admit that the Model is always a spur and a powerful impact on their professional activity. Some say they get inspired by other delegates and experts… And you can try it yourself!
