Introduction to Tourism
Introduction: What is Tourism? Definitions and Concepts, tourist destination, services and industry, definition and historical development, Past to 2nd world war, recent and current 1945–2000, Future from 2000 onwards. General Tourism Trends. Types of Tourists, Visitor, Traveller, and Excursionist–Definition and differentiation. Tourism, recreation and leisure, their inter–relationships.

Internet and Tourism
History of the internet and relation with the travel and tourism industry. Usage of internet in goods and services and Internet strategy. The usage of internet as a promotion tool and value creation. Internet as a distribution and promotion tool in tourism.

Destination marketing
This course, Destination Marketing, searches to increase understanding of the process behind destination marketing activities. Marketing of a tourism destination is much more complex than marketing of an attraction.
This course will offer insight into steps and strategies employed by DMOs and tourism marketing consultancy firms worldwide, focused on destinations viewpoint.
Fundamentals and practical case studies of marketing plan creation, contemporary procedures, practices, tourism system components, communication and distribution models, and examples of strategic marketing applications from around the world will be covered.
On completion of this course students should be able to:
_Classify key stakeholders and visitor segments to a destination
_Evaluate the new product development process for destinations
_Develop appropriate pricing mechanisms for tourism businesses
_Identify the channels of distribution within the tourism system
_Explain the components of the communications mix in destinations
_Identify appropriate tourism promotional techniques.
Destination Branding
Destination branding is a trend employed by Destination Marketing Organizations in an attempt to make their 'product' stand out in the global competition battlefield.
Therefore, during this course:
_different theories, including, for example, equity theory and social exchange theory will be presented,
_the involvement of different stakeholders in the branding efforts of the DMOs will be viewed from the perspective of sustainable tourism development,
_alternative branding strategies will be assessed, as well as issues of evaluating the branding efforts from the perspective of different stakeholders assessed.
Upon completing this course, and through the brainstorming analysis of case studies, the participants will be able to work in project groups responsible for identifying the unique attributes of a place upon which its branding strategies can be based. They will be able to work on the creation and development of a distinct destination brand and its preservation as well.
