DAAD-Chat: Studying with scholarships in Germany

Even though the cost of living in Germany is often cheaper than in France, Britain or the Scandinavian countries, students from East-European or non-EU countries have to prepare for higher living expenses. Luckily, there are numerous funding opportunities available for foreign students, academics and researchers. Yet finding information is often difficult as there is a wide variety of potential donors. Who offers scholarships for studies in Germany? How do I apply for it? What does a scholarship cover? Where can I find out about eligibility, conditions and deadlines? Do I have to speak German for a successful scholarship application?
