| If asked to depict Belfast in one letter only, many Belfast tourists or residents are likely to paint a big red ‘Q’ with a whimsical pattern in the centre. Why not the widely branded ‘B’? That’s not a question as ‘Q’ is the historical brand of excellence and city development. |

Who could foresee Belfast of 1845 then – the refuge for the poorest from around Ulster and Ireland, home for the linen industry workers living on the verge of poverty and starvation, battleground between different ethno-religious groups which got more polarized and conflict-prone? |

On July 17th, 2011 Belfast welcomed me with cold drizzling rain. Finally, it’s Northern Ireland, or a substantial part of ‘Ulster’ if speaking in local terms; a part of the UK with a mixed Irish-British identity.
Head of the Institute of Irish Studies hosting the Summer School in Irish Studies, Dr. Dominic Bryan added more charm to the Belfast’s rainy greeting, being by coincidence the first genuinely ‘Ulster’ person I met: "Belfast is perhaps not a tourist attraction site. But it’s an enourmously interesting city!” |

| В рамках международного конгресса «Культура, как ресурс модернизации» состоявшегося в городе Ульяновске, мне посчастливилось посетить одно из мероприятий входящих в культурную программу.
